The Sakura Pigma Micron is a technical fineliner built around Sakura's archival Pigma pigment ink rather than a standard water-soluble dye. Pigment ink uses tiny, solid pigment particles suspended in a water base instead of a dye that dissolves into the paper, so the ink sits on top of the paper fibers instead of soaking through them. That's what keeps the line crisp instead of bleeding, feathering, or showing through on the back of thin notebook paper.

Once it dries, the ink is fully waterproof, smudge-proof, fade-resistant, and pH-neutral, which means you can lay watercolor washes, acrylic ink, or alcohol-based markers directly over finished line-art without the lines smearing, lifting, or bleeding into the color on top — useful if you're doing inked line-art that gets colored in afterward. The nib itself sits inside a long stainless steel collar rather than a plastic housing, so it stays visible and doesn't catch or flex when you're working alongside a ruler, curve, or drafting template. The barrel is polypropylene with an airtight cap that helps stop the ink from drying out in storage.

Sakura introduced the Pigma Micron in 1982 as one of the first pigment-ink technical pens, and the line is still built around the same ink chemistry today.
