The Pilot Vega 0.5 mm mechanical pencil in blue has a noticeably wider barrel than a standard mechanical pencil, with a soft rubber grip tinted to match the frosted blue casing. The extra width spreads the pressure across your hand instead of concentrating it in your fingers, which makes a difference if you're writing or drafting for long stretches at a time.

The lead advances with a click of the top button and feeds smoothly without snagging on rougher paper, and the tip is a fully retractable sliding sleeve that pulls back into the barrel once you're done — useful for keeping it in a pocket or pencil case without it poking through. A replaceable eraser sits under the push-cap for quick fixes.
