The Moleskine A4 Hardcover Sketchbook is the practical daily studio option in the Art Collection range — 48 sheets of 165 g/m² ivory-tinted sketch paper in a landscape A4 format that balances generous illustration space with desk and bag portability. The surface tooth grips dry media cleanly — graphite, charcoal, soft pastel, and calligraphic ink all perform well without surface breakdown under heavy erasing or cross-hatching. Zero bleeding or feathering with fine-line ink pens and felt-tip markers.

The leather-textured black hardcover opens completely flat at 180° across a desk and protects finished work during daily carry. Thread-bound construction, rounded corners, elastic closure, fabric ribbon marker, and expandable rear pocket. Acid-free, pH-neutral, FSC certified.

Artist Insights
  • Is the 165 g/m² weight suitable for light ink washes alongside dry media? The stock handles light ink washes and marker work cleanly without significant buckling. For heavy watercolor or saturated gouache washes, the 200 g/m² Aquarelle Book is the appropriate choice — the sketchbook paper is optimized for dry and semi-dry media rather than sustained wet application.
  • Does the ivory tint affect color accuracy for ink and marker work? The warm ivory tone shifts cooler ink tones very slightly warmer compared to a pure white surface. For most sketching and illustration work this is negligible — for color-critical design work requiring neutral white, a pure white stock is recommended.
