Caran d'Ache Grafstone is a solid, uncased pencil made entirely from pure graphite rather than a wood-cased lead - a woodless pencil rather than a standard one. It's wrapped only in a micro-thin plastic film to keep fingers clean while writing or drawing, and it feels noticeably heavier in hand than a standard wood pencil of the same size.

Because there's no wood casing, the graphite itself sets the limits: sharpen it to a fine point for detail work, leave it blunt for broad shading, or snap it into smaller fragments for loose, gestural sketching. The graphite is extra-pure and crumbles predictably with minimal dust, giving even tone coverage, and it responds well to blending stumps, finger smudging, and standard erasers for a full range of grey values.

The plastic sleeve peels away cleanly or can be sharpened straight through along with the graphite. Made in Geneva, Switzerland.
